That chicken pox vaccine is full of crap!

So as many of you know, our children can not enter Kindergarten anywhere unless they have been vaccinated with the Chicken Pox Vaccine, ergo, the reason for my post! A little Gibbons history; 12 years ago 1998, Alissa, at 4 years old, almost 5, came home with the Chicken pox from pre-school. So for 1 month of my life I dealt with 3 toddler girls and a 6 month old boy with the chicken pox...I was not annoyed, I figured we all got them as kids, they need to have them and be done! So As the years have passed, I have had to, on numerous occasions, fill out, sign twice, an official form that states my child has had the chicken pox and has not received the Chicken Pox Vaccine (each time vaccinations have come due with each child) Fast Forward 7 years to 2005, Putting our youngest, who was not born at the earlier time, into Kindergarten I was made to give my child this vaccine so he could enter the school system... Mind you I still didn't trust it and thought it was a bunch of crap - Fast forward to present day -
Hunter has the CHICKEN POX!
What's up with that, Oh yeah could be that his Dad just got over the Shingles (Higher form of chicken Pox virus), but what about that vaccine, isn't that supposed to keep you children from getting this virus? Need I say more!

Positive? Understanding? Not to Good...

Just Something to contemplate; If going to watch your daughters play Church Basketball becomes an exchanging of words between Moms, You need to find something else to do on a Thursday Night! This is not the WNBA, ladies - and those are not real Ref's - CHILL OUT - And that's all I have to say about that! I will try better tomorrow.....

"Thump, Bump, Smash!"

My February 2010 goal was to be more positive, supportive and understanding at home, work and church - I am being Tested - I am sure of it!!!!
February 1st went off without a hitch, beautiful day, still cold but all in all Another Day in the life...
February 2nd started off as a great day, We knew The Accreditation team was coming to NSA to test us all on our school and the curriculum, I didn't talk to any of them and the day was great - The IT hits...Going to pick up Zoey from RHS Dance Co practice, she walks out with 2 large Ice bags on her head...OK I know you work up a sweat at Dance but n 40 degree weather this is ridiculous, SO we learn that Zoey was doing a Hip Hop trick with a male dancer (Probably 2 x's her size) and landed on her head, and then the male dancer in turn landed on top of her head, so that would be 2 x's the fun of landing on the wood floor. So we watched her and decided after 30 minutes that the Insta-care was needed. Got Hunter to neighbors for basketball, Stone was at a friends, Jocelyn was doing Science Fair, Alissa was at work & After 4 hours in Insta-care and Emergency she was deemed still in tact, "Severe" Concussion but no cracked skull or bleeding, Good to know - On we go!

Walking in the door to my home, I find Stone and Hunter beating the living CR_ _ out of each other in the kitchen, while Jocelyn and friend sit and watch the entertainment. Quite the site seeing Stone receive a beating from the Little Gibby, off we go to the upstairs to get the stories. So trying to stay true to my goal for February to be more positive and understanding, I gave the boys an assignment to write a paper as to how they could become a better brother. (HE HE, I love being the mom sometimes.......) Let me tell you how opposite my boys are, Stone wrote about how he should not do certain wrestling techniques on his brother and really likes having him around , Where as Hunter was not so nice, let's leave it at that....

The night continues: I am on 24 hour watch of Zoey, to make sure nothing changes in her pain or siutation, When a knock comes to the door and it is our good friend who had just been by the house to drop off a church item and realized that her car had popped out of gear and ran into our garage door. Please believe me when I say, I was not mad at all, these things happen, but I started Laughing and I couldn't stop... especially when I see the taco shaped panels on the garage. I am not kidding, it seemed to be a constant string of unlucky events - So the laughing continued, the door was reshaped (mostly) Chris came home, I picked the girls up from dance and I just laughed at the crazy day's events until I fell asleep...We'll try again tomorrow!

REALLY - No Way Would A 1st Grader Do THAT!

Let me tell you, nothing suprises me anymore.......
Background: I work at North Star Academy, K-9 Charter School in Bluffdale Utah, 1.2 miles from my current residence.
I am currently a TA in the 1st grade, In previous years I have worked in Kindergarten and 1st Grade. So the things our little ones of today say or do, Don't seem to surprise me much anymore, until this week.....
As many of you know, I LOVE KIDS! I always have and after this week I always will! ( But a little more cautious, I believe)

READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH THERE ARE 2 STORIES OF EQUAL CRAZINESS

1ST Setting: Monday, January 25th, Cold Winter Day in Utah @ 12:45pm Lunch Recess
2nd grade boy comes sobbing to myself and another aide and is bleeding from his nose. (Common occurance amoung boys at school, playing on ice and snow and running around...) The other aide comes to the side of the crying boy and asks what has happened - (this is where I will put in Made-up names to protect the innocent or not so innocent)

TA: Johnny what happened? are you OK?
Johnny: No- Amy punched me in the nose. (Sobbing and bleeding)
TA: Lets go to the office - sidebar- Mrs Alice will you go get Amy and figure out what happened?
Mrs Alice: Gladly!! (Thinking as I am looking; Johnny is one of the larger 2nd grade boys and Amy,by-far, is the smallest 1st grade girl in stature - A David and Goliath scenario)
(Looking around playground and spotting AMY)
Mrs. Alice: Amy Come over here, I need to talk to you!!!
(Amy slowly, I mean snail like coming across the playground to Mrs. Alice with 3 little shadows following her)
Mrs. Alice: Now Amy, Would you like to tell me your side of the story? (mind you I didn't even tell her what I was talking about or who I was inquiring about, yet I knew she was completely aware - This is not a huge suprise to Mrs. Alice)
Amy: Well Johnny and his friends are the boys who always try to hurt us and chase us.
Mrs. Alice: Did he hit you or touch you today?
Amy: No
Mrs Alice: Did he hit you or hurt you any other day?
Amy: No
Mrs Alice: Did you actually punch Johnny in the Nose?
Amy: Yes
Mrs. Alice: Why would you do that?
Amy: Because he was going to hurt us.
Mrs. Alice: What made you think he was going to hurt you?
Amy: He and his friends always bother us and go near us and won;t leave us alone.
Mrs Alice: Amy, you have never come to me before and told me he is bullying you or bothering you or trying to hurt you, Why?
Amy: (No Answer - Straight faced stare - literally through my body - No emotion on this childs face at ALL)
Mrs Alice: OK, let's go to the Principal's office. (Amy walks along side Mrs. Alice and gives no emotion - at this point most kids start to sniffle and cry or confess cause they are scared - NO, not Amy ( I think she is SATAN) - As we are walking I make the following comments; Amy, I could understand you defending yourself if you were getting hurt, and if you came and told me what was going on, but this is not acceptable. I don't know what you are allowed to do at your house, but at school we do not ever Punch another student or person, for that matter, in the nose or anywhere - especially on their BIRTHDAY!!!! (Yes, you read right, It was Johnny's 8th Birthday)

Happy Freaking Birthday to you, hope you enjoy that Bloody Nose and Black eye!

(Conclusion: Amy shows no remorse, no emotion and parents are out of town for 10 days in Hawaii, and Grandma has to come in and deal with the situation and SATAN; She gets 4 days Detention in the office during recess and Lunch and doesn't care) Where did we go wrong?

2nd Setting: Wednesday, January 27th, 1st grade classroom, NSA. Mrs Alice reads to the kids daily at 11:45 am to 12:10 pm "Junie B. Jones" or the Magic Treehouse. I keep my phone in my pocket or, in this case, on the white board shelf to keep time before I need to wrap it up and take the kids down to lunch.

12:10pm Mrs Alice take the 1st graders to to the lunch room for lunch and leaves the main teacher behind in the classroom
12:25pm Teacher goes to leave the classroom and notice Mrs Alice has left her phone on the white board shelf and wonders if she should pick it up and put it somewhere and decides to leave it there cause Mrs. Alice will probably come looking it for it momentarily.
12:50pm Mrs Alice and students enter classroom after lunch recess, Mrs Alice starts retrieving her personal items when a voice a student says to her,
STUDENT(let's call her Jane): Mrs. Alice, don't forget your phone.
So immediately Mrs Alice turns to the White board to retrieve her cell phone, and lo and behold it is not there...(Hence the mystery of the stolen phone...)
Mrs Alice: Jane, did you pick up my phone?
Jane: No Mrs Alice, but I saw it on the white board.
Mrs Alice: Jane did you see anyone touch mrs Alice's phone?
Jane: No.
At this point Mrs Alice and the 1st grade teacher attempt to locate the red cell phone, looking in all purses, coats, drawers, book shelves, asking all students, having all student take out there Tote Trays, asking over and over if anyone has seen the missing red cell phone. Mean while Mrs Alice goes to the office checks lost and found asks all the office staff and reports that if anyone turns it in, that it is hers. I found it very odd that this student would remind me not to forget to retrieve my phone and acted very mysterious with another student we shall call Joan.
So Alice takes off for the day, she is now off the clock and goes home to explain her plight to her husband at work. Through out the night I figured it may show up, but if it didn't I would be fine without the immediate access that my children have to me....
Fast forward to Thursday January 28th 8:25 am; Mrs Alice enters 1st grade where upon arrival many student ask about the missing red phone and to my shagrin I explain that it had not yet been returned. Meanwhile, The 1st grade teacher explains that she received a call from my cell phone the evening prior at 6:50pm, The mystery continues...
8:28am: Jane comes into class with a smile and says "Mrs Alice, Look I found your phone!"
Mrs Alice: Jane honey ar you sure you did not take my phone home with you?
Jane: No I found it out by the trash can
Mrs Alice: Which trash can?
Jane: The one down the hall, it was behind it.
Mrs Alice: Are you positive that is where it was Jane, because someone called the Teacher last night from that cell phone (The last # that I had called from the red cell phone was my teachers cell phone, so anyone could press talk 2 times and it will call back the last # dialed)
Jane: No, I found it by the trash.
Mrs Alice: Ok, thank you for giving me my phone back.
[ The stories did not match up - So Mrs Alice explained to the teacher and the Vice principal that a little investigation needed to happen] To make a long story shorter; Jane and Joan were interviewed by Teacher, Vice Principal and the story went as follows;
Jane: I was walking into school and I saw a boy drop something out of his coat into the ice melt bucket by the front doorway and I thought to my self that sounds like something broke, I wander if it is Mrs. Alice's phone, so I looked down in the bucket and there it was so I brought it to Mrs. Alice. She continued on to tell what type of coat the boy was wearing and she thought she could identify him in the 2nd grade...Luckily she did not accomplish this and no innocent 2nd grade boy was blamed. (Where do they come up with these things?)

Being the investigator that I am, I was thinking as I was leaving work today that I should check the Call log on my red cell phone, as low and behold 2 calls were made at 6:49pm to voicemail (automatic if you have any messages and press the green call button) & 6:50 pm to my home; which is the #2 speed dial on my cell phone and the beginning number of most Riverton Phone numbers, ie... 254-xxxx and the INFAMOUS SMOKING GUN, a phone call was made from the red cell phone at 12:38pm (recess time) to an unknown number. So I called that # and received an answering machine with a familiar ladies voice. So with my investigative nature I called NSA and asked them to look up the phone # and tell me who it belonged to and would you believe it, IT WAS JANES HOME! Caught YA!
- To wrap this up, Jane and Jane's parents came into the school to meet with the Vice Principal and come to find out that we had a real CLEPTO on our hands, she wanted to have a school like room in her play room and was bringing things home each day in her backpack to put in her play room. Guess what "Teacher" we found those missing rulers and bell you were looking for.

REALLY PEOPLE WHAT ARE WE TEACHING OR NOT TEACHING OUR KIDS THESE DAYS!
Little miss Jane had no remorse, showed no emotion and thought that being cute and young it would not be any big deal, She will serve 1 week recess detention and have to clean tables at lunch - What's up with that - Suspend the little Fart....Needless to say I was really upset and Angry and I feel bad for all those that crossed my path today!

SHINGLES..I knew it!

Well as you can tell by the title, we have Shingles! Well not me but Chris! He has not been feeling well for about a week, but doesn't complain. Chris thought he may have pinched a nerve in his back and was trying to fight off the flu, so he would soak in a hot tub each night after a 12 hour work day, but to no avail would the pain subside. Iin the mean time he began to notice a rash on his back, then I noticed it on his chest and then down his right arm and shoulder. Finally after days of just dealing with the pain, he thought he just needed a trip to the Chiropractor, then the hot/ cold sweats began and sleeping had become almost impossible. I knew it had to be bad if he dressed for the "Old Farts" basketball game, but chose not to play. I finally convinced him he should see a medical doctor, not just the local chiropractor (even though we think he is awesome!) After work today he went to Insta-Care and the Doctor recognized him from an infection he had earlier this last year and almost immediately knew he had Shingles. Mind you, only 2 days ago, I mentioned his symptoms to my co-worker and she thought it could be shingles and Chris dismissed it very quickly. Well needless to say, Chris feels like "JOB" and feels like a Leper, but they also said this could have been triggered by a low immune system (DUH, CROHN's Disease , continual Chemo-IV for 5 years) and Stress....That would be Chris, so we are glad he finally went to the Dr.and is now on Antibiotics to help him through this newest and most un-welcomed challenge. Now, mind-you if he were writing this, he would say everything is just fine and that he is doing great...That is the kind-of man I married, THANK GOODNESS for HIM! I love you my leper spotted buddy - it could be worse, you could have limbs falling off...

January Happenings

January is 2/3 the way through and we have been as busy as ever. In this tough economy, Chris has resorted to working all waking hours of the day and not taking days off, I am putting in as many hours as possible at North Star Academy, with budget cuts there, I am only allowed 5 hours a day every other week, So we are working hard and I am taking over the evening family duties until Business picks up, but we are in this for the long haul and we work better as a team than individuals.

We had Keith, Cher, Willow, Zane and Reese with us through New Years and the we had a great time Sledding, eating, and just hanging out. Keith and Cher wanted snow and they definitely brought it with them!

After the new year we made changes in the business and have tried to make changes in our personal lives. I accomplished my First New Years Goal by January 3, 2010. The Young Women in our Ward challenged all of us as leaders and young women to finish reading or listening to the Book of Mormon in 32 days. With 3 days to go I finished on January 3rd. I was so excited that I went through the house and told all my kids my good news, I am pretty sure they thought I was crazy, but it was an amazing goal that I was proud of accomplishing!!!!!

Basketball season came back into full swing for Hunter and Stone! Both teams are doing awesome one is 4-0 the other is 3-1. Stone's Deacon's Quorum team is definitely struggling but are having a great time. The Young Women's Team has just started and with 1 game under their belt they are 1-0 with only 5 players the 1st game. Let's just say Alissa was exhausted and definitely out of shape - We will check in at the end of the seasons.

Baseball is also in full swing!!! Literally - Stone's RATS Baseball team (Respect, Attitude, Teamwork, and Service) began training the 1st week of January and we are working toward Cooperstown, NY in July 2010. We have our 1st Baseball Tournament beginning on February 12, 1010 in St George, Utah. Hopefully it will get warmer..... Wishful thinking for Winter in Utah?

We had more visitors this month with my Dad coming to town for my Nephew's Wedding. Chris Rupe, whom I refer to as "Sasquatch", he's like 6'4", I feel very insignificant near him, even though he thought I was 6 years older than I really am, Shame on Him! We were able to have the wedding at the Draper, Utah Temple and the Luncheon/Dinner was at a Church building in our neighborhood. I post only a few pictures because I forgot to get my camera out, but they are the pictures of newest Great Nieces - yes I said that, I currently have 4 great-neices and 3 great nephews, I think it is awesome! Like I always say "They are So YUMMY"
